Billy Blake
Photographic Artist
I studied Art History and Photography at New York University. I am
strongly influenced by the Impressionists and fascinated by the unique and
transient nature of light. I love to deceive the eye, I want people to
wonder what they’re looking at, and then figure it out.
I set out in 1977 with my Nikon to photograph and create my personal
visions of the world in black and white and Kodacolor. My photography is
infused with a painters palette for color and an architectural eye for
composition and form in black and white.
My subjects range from highly colorful impressions of beauty and nature to
the harsh realities of life in New York City.
I have been given three one-man shows and numerous group shows in New York
City between 1978-1993. This is my first show since moving to California
in 1995.
I recently moved to Malibu and have begun a fascination and preoccupation
with the world of Digital Photography. I personally supervise all aspects
of the photographic process and hand-sign each limited-edition print.
Every one of these photographs is a single-layer image, everything happens
in front of my camera and nothing is added later by the magic of a
computer
